“But I want to know something unknown as well. But I guess nothing is unknown here. Everything is known. Visible.”
“Yeah… Most of it is… Or, I guess there are lots of people making music in their own homes, but I don’t know. No. Unknown. What should that be. Mmmmmm. I really don’t know. It’s unknown.”
Scratching the surface – diving in deep is a three part sound project made for Radio Apartment 22 with contributions by SEX TAGS (N/GER) and Jooyoung Lee (KOR), curated by Anne Szefer Karlsen (N). In addition to the mixes made by the artists, there is a recorded conversation between Jooyoung Lee and Peter Mitterer of SEX TAGS. Jooyoung Lee was resident artist at Flaggfabrikken – centre for photography and visual art in Bergen, Norway spring 2008. SEX TAGS is a collaborational project made by the two brothers Peter Mitterer, who lives in Bergen, Norway, and Stefan Mitterer who lives in Berlin, Germany. Lee and SEX TAGS were invited to create soundscapes for Radio Apartment 22, directed by Abdellah Karroum based in Rabat, Marocco, and thus creating a geographical triangle crossing three continents. In the conversation Lee and Mitterer touch upon important issues for any close network, be it local or international, the importance of a space to meet and the value of exchange between genres and geographies. There is bound to be certain local references in a conversation like this. The bar/restaurant/project space Landmark situated in Bergen Kunsthall is mentioned, as well as local record company owner Mikal Telle. The conversation took place on the roof top terrace of BEK, Bergen Center for Electronic Arts Tuesday May 13th 2008.
The project was made possible with the support of OCA and the co-production of BEK, Bergen Center for Electronic Arts.
